Online Courses Coming!
I love teaching and encouraging new people to join the world of fibre arts! That's why I'm excited to announce that I will be launching an online school on my website! Students can learn about a variety of fibre and textile arts and crafts at their own pace. Many of these courses will also be available in person at venues around Toronto, Canada. Courses will be project based, so you will end up with a finished project while you level up your skills.
A view of my home video production space. It’s challenging to produce videos as a one-person film crew.
Starting this online school has been a long time coming. I've been teaching crafts (mostly knitting) for 15 years. When I decided to make the leap to become a textile artist, I knew from the start that I wanted teaching to be a part of that practice. For the past 2 years I've been working on building my skills in video production, trying out different techniques and equipment. I still have a lot to learn, and I'm doing it mostly by myself, but I'm excited for you to join me on this journey.
My first course will be a mini course: making lavender sachets using a 4" pin loom. I discovered pin loom weaving about 10 years ago when I bought a vintage Weave-it loom from a seller on Etsy. Since then, I've become a supplier for Schacht Spindle Company selling their Zoom Looms, an updated version of that original 3-pin loom. I love this tool because it's quick to use and easy to learn, as well as being very portable. You wouldn't think that a tool that only makes 4" squares would offer much versatility, but you'd be surprised at the projects you can make! I look forward to showcasing this diversity with a variety of courses.
In the future, I plan to include courses on knitting, spinning yarn, dyeing, and embroidery. But what would you like to learn from me? I'd love to hear about the gaps in your fibre arts skills and how I can help fill them!
